Exactly 15th October 1987, Captain Thomas Sankara, former President of Burkina faso was Murdered by his righthand collegue , Blaise Campore.

A 33yr old young Captain, introduced sweeping reforms to free his country from France & the IMF control by introducing a no loan policy for development
He changed the name of the country from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso( Man of Upright Standing ), Nationalised the mining sector of the economy, massive agriculture reforms to feed the nation and anti-corruption drive across the country.

These made him very unpopular in the West, especially with France ,when Sankara stopped relying on Paris for support or loans.
In 1987, he was murdered together with 12 senior officers in a Coupt led by Blaise Campore with help of France, Charles Taylor of Sierra Leone and Late Eyadema.
His body was brutally dismembered n buried in an unmarked grave.
He was a Great Pan Africanist who understood the times and fought for the liberation of the continent from Imperialism, IMF Control & French Colonial Tax imposition
In his memory, Former President JJ Rawlings, then Head of State and Chairman of the PNDC Government, honoured him with what came to be called ....' Sankara Circle ' on the Ring Road to Osu now Ako Adjei Interchange to liberation Circle.
